Individuals at this level have developed extensive experience within the construction industry and are able to work on their own initiative under general levels of supervision. They organise and motivate a team of Construction Project Engineers to achieve routine construction tasks that meet the needs of internal/external customers. They will define and reform construction tasks (e.g. execution plan, methodology, mobilisation strategy) and will select and apply standard construction and/or design techniques and procedures. They plan resource/work schedules (that may involve working with others out-with their immediate work group) to ensure work remains on track and/or recovery plans are implemented. Role holders provide and monitor management information metrics (e.g. performance/productivity metrics, resource forecasts, contractual performance) across their area of responsibility. Role-holders ensure that all construction activities within their area of responsibility (including those conducted by sub-contractors) are completed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with statutory regulations and company/client requirements. They are accountable for the quality and delivery of construction work packages and will evaluate progress and outcomes to determine improvements; They independently evaluate solutions which meet the needs of internal/external customers. Individuals use their expertise to provide accurate information in support of the proposal/bid/tendering process. They take on a technical advisory/mentoring role with more junior members of the team. Individuals play an important role in client and supplier management and therefore require a solid grounding in the broad range of Altrad Babcock's services, processes and technologies.

Role & Responsibility


  1. Execution: Establish construction teams capable of achieving packages of construction work to safety, quality, schedule and costs standards, by reviewing resource plans/schedules and individual competence documentation. Provide direction to Project Construction Engineers to ensure that tasks are achieved in line with Business Operating Procedures (BOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) within pre-defined safety, quality, schedule and cost standards. Modify site schedule and cost standards to close relevant performance/productivity gaps and enhance company turnover and profitability (margin) in line with the AOP.
  2. Governance: Monitor compliance with national laws/regulations and adherence to the Construction Management Process including company-wide & functional BOPs and WIs to ensure site-teams act in line with standardised working practices. Monitor the implementation of key safety/quality standards including Focus2Zero and Critical Task protocols (e.g. error prevention tools) to ensure that all site activity is conducted in line with company/client standards. Ensure compliance with the Internal Controls Process (ICP) including upload and approval of evidence within the DICAS system on a quarterly basis.
  3. Innovation: Recommend improvements in policy, procedures, equipment and methods which contribute to enhanced productivity/performance. Participate in, and be able to lead on, project reviews/lessons learned in order to identify continuous improvement opportunities and modify work practices. Implement Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives for key contracts/projects by effectively communicating with all members of the site delivery team to achieve the expected margin improvement.
  4. Communication: Utilise an extensive internal and external (customer, contract partner and supplier) relationship network of key stakeholders and provide succinct and accurate analysis to support internal/customer decision making.
  5. People Development: Take accountability for their own personal Professional Development Record as part of Doosan’s talent management ethos. Complete the DCM process annually for direct reports and mentor less experienced members of staff related to their area in order to develop talent within the organisation. Develop succession plans for the construction team ensuring that development opportunities are supported, which will foster the next level of talent within the organisation.

Job Requirement


  1. Vocational qualification i.e. ONC/HNC/HND (preferably in a related subject(s) such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil engineering). or equivalent, significant and related professional experience.
  2. Extensive experience in construction with a proven record of achievement in effective site delivery against safety, quality, schedule and cost targets.
  3. In-depth knowledge and application of Construction Management Process appropriate to allotted tasks and associated documentation.
  4. In-depth knowledge and application of the requirements of UK/EU Laws and Regulations applicable to services and products associated with Competency(s) (including company-wide & functional BOPs and WIs).
  5. Knowledge and application of problem solving and risk management techniques
  6. Extensive knowledge of Doosan’s operating context and the wider engineering construction industry.
  7. Knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle) and extensive experience using them to forecast, record and control key metrics related to site delivery (including the ability to produce accurate PFSR reports.
  8. Focus2Zero Leader Training (foundation training as a minimum), IOSH Managing Safely certificate and experience and application of the Critical Task process are essential.
  9. Extensive experience of minimum safety documentation requirements including risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments and specialised activities.
  10. Knowledge and awareness of working capital KPIs.
