Due to internal moves and business expansion, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Subcontracts Manager to join our Commercial team here at Westlakes. If you're a QS or Buyer looking to move into a contract management position, this could be for you.
Roles at this level provide technical leadership to procurement teams across a variety of levels. Role holders have developed extensive experience of procurement with a proven track record of leading cost effective procurement activity. They will lead teams and plan work schedules and take on a technical advisory role ensuring standards are being adhered to. Alternatively role holders may be tasked with leading a defined procurement-related project or a procurement work package (sub-project) element within a larger project. Individuals at this level will assess suppliers based on an analysis of optimum value, identify competitive sources and maintain a focus on the company’s commercial objectives. Meeting the needs of internal/external Doosan customers is a priority. Roles will play an integral role in client and supplier management and therefore require an expert knowledge of the broad range of Doosan Babcock’s services, processes and technologies. Roles at this level require a broader application of expertise and depth of experience than at the preceding level.

Role & Responsibility


  1. Execution: Investigate and qualify suppliers, negotiating contracts to ensure that company/supplier relationships are effective and productive. Take the lead procurement role for projects which will enhance company turnover and profitability (margin).


  1. Governance: Establish and implement procedures for procuring materials, equipment and services which result in optimum value for the company. Identify risks and issues related to the procurement process and adopt a formal approach to ensure that all risks are managed appropriately.


  1. Innovation: Actively seek innovative solutions to problems and identify/evaluate competitive sources to meet the company’s commercial objectives. Participate in, and be able to lead on, review sessions/lessons learned in order to identify continuous improvement opportunities and modify work practices.


  1. Communication: Utilise an extensive internal and external (client) relationship network of key stakeholders to monitor market trends and conditions. Provide expert technical support with innovative and differentiating solutions in order to influence customer decision making/satisfaction.


  1. People Development: Take accountability for their own personal Professional Development Record as part of Doosan’s talent management ethos. Provide technical leadership, taking a supervisory role with less experienced members of staff in order to develop technical skills and behavioural competencies which will foster the next level of talent within the organisation.

Job Requirement


  1. Degree qualified (BA, BSc, BEng) preferably in an appropriate discipline (business studies, economics) or equivalent, relevant and extensive work experience in the procurement field within the power generation industry
  2. Good leadership skills i.e. Ability to communicate and influence at a senior management level; experience leading a team and managing it’s interaction with other teams
  3. In-depth knowledge and application of the requirements of UK/EU Laws and Regulations applicable to procurement activity
  4. Extensive knowledge of Doosan’s operating context and wider industry, including a developed understanding of sources of supply, competitors and general issues that prevail in the industry.
  5. Extensive knowledge and understanding of problem solving and risk management techniques, with the ability to select the correct approach for the situation
