Assist supervisor and provide technical leadership for a group engaged in assembly of production and developmental fuel cell fabrication, assembly and testing. Work with Process Planners, Engineers and others to devise and implement product and process changes. Identify opportunities to improve methods and best utilize work group skills. Make recommendations to improve product cost, quality and delivery. Responsible for performing assembly and test work in accordance with standard work instruction when not engaged in leadership activities. Actively participate in process improvement teams, properly maintain tools and equipment and maintain a safe, clean and comfortable work environment. Motivate teams, leverage skills and provide support to assure effective execution. *This position requires a rotating schedule.

Role & Responsibility

  • Follow broad instructions from supervisor, engineer of project lead to plan work flow and direct work group assigned to fabricate assemble and test parts subassemblies and components.
  • Perform standard fabrication and assembly work assignments to meet production schedules and manufacturing goals, including quality and cost.
  • Apply proactive, systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating and resolving quality and process issues, supporting continuous improvement as a top priority of the position.
  • Determine special processing requirements to repair/replace faulty components and work with others as required to assure fabrication, assembly and test procedures meet quality and production standards.
  • May perform the work necessary to set up and operate straddle carriers and the gantry crane to secure, transport and position large modules, assemblies and powerplants.
  • Devise and improvise new methods and recommend improvements to tooling and processes to meet/exceed engineering requirements for new and changed processes.

Job Requirement

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, and 2-3 years of trades training, or equivalent.
  • May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Mechanical background and training including material movement systems, assembly methods and techniques, and basic knowledge of physics, mechanics, electricity and gases.
