Job Information

Plan and perform the electrical and electronic work necessary to install, diagnose, repair and modify a wide variety of complex electronic and electromechanical systems, devices and components throughout the facility. Electrical systems may include but not be limited to substations, transformers, and switchgears where independent action specialized training and thorough knowledge of industrial electrical codes are required to provide power, resolve service interruptions, and make modifications to improve system performance. May concentrate in area of electrical or electronic expertise, however, shall maintain a level of proficiency expected at this level in other areas of responsibility. Assist others as required. Actively participate in process improvement teams, properly maintain tools and equipment, and maintain a safe, clean and comfortable work environment for self and others

Role & Responsibility

  • Under direction of supervisor or lead, follow instructions, engineering drawings and specifications, service manuals and applicable electrical codes to plan and complete assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform system installations, maintenance and repair work, and carry out preventive maintenance and service work as required. Make decisions to alter or improvise tooling or sequence of operations to complete tasks in the absence of clear cut procedures and precedence.
  • Utilize knowledge of general operating methods to analyze and document problems, to select available tooling and equipment to plan and layout material requirements, and to determine sequence of operations.
  • Work on special assignments with supervisors, engineers, vendors, customers and other trade groups to review and prepare for new equipment installation or modifications. Recommend service requirements and check out system operation to specification.
  • Suggest ways and means to more effectively utilize tools and equipment, and make recommendations to improve system quality and to reduce maintenance and repair costs.
  • Develop system start-up, operation, monitoring and servicing techniques.
  • For safety of self and others, assure Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) rules are properly applied in all required situations on all required equipment.
  • Lead others to support department objectives and to develop individual skills of self and others.
  • Instruct and assist others in the system, care, operation, use and maintenance of equipment, and safe working practices. 
  • Assist other trades working on joint projects, where common skill crossover provides opportunity for shared responsibility, teamwork, skill elevation and increased effective use of skills.

Job Requirement

Education & Experience

  • 6-8 years of experience
  • Equivalent to 4 years of HS and a 4-year apprenticeship or equivalent experience
  • Work in a factory/manufacturing environment
  • Computer and systems experience essential
  • Broad knowledge of electronics and electrical theory, including AC/DC, solid-state theory, polyphase power, and a thorough understanding of computer operation and code mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics, and interdependence in control systems
  • May be required to provide training and to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications required

Knowledge & Skill

  • Work from complex schematics and technical materials and a variety of test equipment
  • Skilled use of and experience with a variety of electrical and electronic systems, equipment and tooling
