We are recruiting for a Senior Engineer (Open Innovation) to lead the design, implementation and management of our Open Innovation framework. The successful applicant will deliver a program to enhance internal and external collaboration through increased and targeted education and engagement within technical and non-technical functions.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop our open innovation partnership approach and leverage the wider UK start up and innovation community
  • Build and maintain a community of current and potential partners from the start-up world.
  • Market the Open Innovation Initiative both internally and externally
  • Collaborate with, influence and inspire internal stakeholders to design and deliver Open Innovation partnerships
  • To openly publicise and coordinate Open Innovation Challenges to enhance the business.
  • Organise and host collaborative workshops/hackathons and Open Innovation Challenges that openly engage both internal staff and external organisations
  • Deliver the KPI's for the Open Innovation programme
  • Initiate and lead consortiums in pursuit of external grant funding opportunities, including formal proposal bid document generation
  • Identify collaborative R&D funding opportunities of relevance to the Company and liaise with relevant functions to develop proposals from concept to submission
  • Encourage and implement innovative methods and thinking to improve existing processes.
  • Coordination of multi-disciplinary skills and expertise to deliver differentiating products and technologies
  • Track, manage and deliver projects within the Open Innovation portfolio
  • Lead the development and co-ordination of partner relationship management strategies, establishing and leveraging these to develop new business opportunities aligned to Company Annual and Long-Range targets
  • Support business development activities to understand key market drivers and trends
  • Develop robust value propositions and business models to meet customer requirements
  • Coordinate contract negotiations with collaborating SMEs, including preparation of non-disclosure and consortium agreements
  • University liaison activities: individuals, departments, institutions, programmes and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
  • Establish and grow links to Scottish Enterprise in addition to UK-wide Government organisations supporting business growth

 

Applicants must be degree qualified in a relevant discipline and have extensive knowledge of research and innovation processes and practices as well as collaborative enterprise and innovation management. Prior knowledge and experience of power and energy technologies, including product development is expected. Knowledge of niche research contracts, public funded R&I grant processes and procedures, including working knowledge of DoE, EU Framework programmes and BEIS/UKRI/Innovate UK grant funding processes. Working knowledge of business development practices including sales and marketing functions, value proposition and business model development.
