We are currently looking for a Principal Piping Engineer to join the business, providing a document control service for a portfolio of projects within our Process & Energy division. With extensive experience in both Brownfield and Greenfield projects, covering FEED and EPC work.

We are looking for a driven and proactive Principal Engineer to be responsible for technical delivery, change control and schedule control of projects they are working on. You will be responsible for mentoring and development of less experienced technical personnel within their function, this also includes checking and verification of piping and mechanical engineers’ work. You may be required to lead a team of engineers to deliver a project. You will liaise with Head of Mechanical to review resourcing and competency / development planning.
 
You will educated to Degree level or equivalent, Chartered Engineer preferred.    You will have considerable experience as a Piping Engineer. Excellent knowledge and proven in-depth understanding of Engineering delivery methods, techniques and tools. Extensive knowledge of at least one of the following industries; Thermal, Process, Nuclear. You will have strong ability to mentor and be able to make technically critical decisions as well as support the team to meet business needs.
 
The location for this particular role can be flexible, providing candidates are able to travel to our Renfrew head office as and when needed.

Role & Responsibility

  1. Execution: Verifies and approves technical documents related to Business Operating Procedures (BOPs)/ Work Instructions (WIs) and provides technical leadership on projects, ensuring codes and standards are being used effectively and less experienced Engineers are supervised. Develop work scopes in response to customer needs and prepare man-hour estimates/ schedules/ MPP for small and medium project proposals which will enhance company turnover and profitability (margin).
 
  1. Governance: Modify and write BOPs as well as carrying out discipline audits and benchmark best practice to ensure continued compliance and provide extensive support to the Section Manager for competence assurance.
 
  1. Innovation: Drive innovative technology solutions and contribute to company-wide best practice in order to identify continuous improvement opportunities and establish work practices.
 
  1. Communication:  Utilise an extensive internal and external (client) relationship network of key stakeholders (DHI, product Management) and provide an expert technical support with innovative and differentiating solutions in order to influence customer decision making.
 
  1. People Development: Take accountability for their own personal Professional Development Record as part of Altrad Babcock's talent management ethos. Provide technical and functional leadership, taking a supervisory role with less experienced members of staff in order to develop technical skills and behavioural competencies which will foster the next level of talent within the organisation.
 

Job Requirement

  1. Principal Engineer - BSc/BEng in a discipline appropriate to one or more Engineering, Science or Technical specialisms is essential. Accredited post graduate training that would satisfy the requirements of  professional registration (e.g. CEng) of a professional institution (e.g. IMechE)
  2. Extensive and appropriate experience in one or more Engineering disciplines with a proven record of achievement and delivering fit for purpose technical solutions
  3. In-depth knowledge and application of Business Operating Procedures appropriate to allotted tasks and associated documentation
  4. In-depth Knowledge and application of the requirements of UK/EU Laws and Regulations applicable to services and products associated with Competency(s)
  5. Extensive knowledge of Altrad Babcock's operating context  and wider industry (including general issues that prevail in the industry)
