The Dynamic Engineering function within the Asset Management business area provide consultancy services to the Oil & Gas, Process and Power Generation sectors in the field of Noise & Vibration. Within this team we have an opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join us in Renfrew, working as part of delivery teams exposed to a wide range of expertise across the division as well as undertaking work across the wider Asset Management business.


Main duties:


  • Perform investigations into pipework & structural related vibration problems, including performing vibration, dynamic stress & dynamic pressure measurements, both onshore and offshore
  • Perform vibration assessment at design stage in line with Energy Institute AVIFF Guidelines
  • Perform detailed analysis to prevent and solve vibration induced fatigue failures. This may include the use of Dewesoft, FEA, CFD, etc.
  • Project Management; demonstrate cost control and understanding of all commercial aspects of project control
  • Assist with the production of technical papers and articles for publication in peer reviewed journals and technical publications


The Principal Engineer will be a qualified Mechanical Engineer, ideally Chartered and/or have a PhD in a relevant subject. With experience in a similar technical role within a relevant sector you should also have experience using handheld instruments for performing vibration, dynamic pressure and dynamic stress measurements. Applicants should have knowledge and experience of Energy Institute AVIFF Guidelines and knowledge of vibration induced fatigue (BS 7608) and how to assess, prevent and determine mitigation measures.
