Supervise creation and development of major processes, manufacturing lines, or manufacturing cells in order to lead industry in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Role & Responsibility

Oversee Process Development and Design:

  • Be aware of trends and developments in process design from vendors, industry and divisional contacts, workshops to determine and apply new techniques, equipment and procedures
  • Conduct feasibility studies for new processes
  • Work with other departmental functions in completion of assigned projects
  • Participate in and assist in planning of process specifications
  • Prepare and participate in presentations to others both internal and external
  • Responsible for new program launches
  • Responsible for new paint applications and trials
  • Responsible for setting up new processes for production members
  • Create, implement and review all manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and paint line layouts (loading/unloading/storage)
  • Provide technical support for overall paint processes
  • Problem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting paint shop quality
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of manufacturing/engineering policies, specifications, procedures, and work processes within the automotive paint shop environment

Project Execution to a Disciplined Process:

  • Improve project execution by encouraging the use of a disciplined problem-solving approach
  • Establish metrics to define successful completion and handoff of a project to production
  • Promote cost saving activities. Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing costs, reducing energy usage, improving quality, etc.
  • Interact with customers to build a quality relationship

Management of Team

  • Assign work in alignment to regional priorities as well as individual development needs
  • Estimate resource needs for projects
  • Supervision and assessment of team members
  • Support the environmental compliance in paint systems
  • Forge excellent cross-functional relationships between engineering, suppliers, quality, and manufacturing
  • Lead cross functional teams in order to meet department targets

Job Requirement

  • Four year degree with Engineering or Technical degree preferred, equivalent automotive, machinery engineering experience may be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years paint engineering, operations, manufacturing engineering
  • Must be familiar with automation/robotics for paint sprayers.
  • Preferred: Robot path programming knowledge and experience; working knowledge of pneumatics and electrical controls
  • Knowledge of paint-related technologies (coatings (E-coat,Powder), corrosion, sealing, pre-treatments)
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • High degree of interpersonal skills to work effectively with other teams
  • Product / process evaluation and corrective action implementation (i.e. process mapping & PFMEA)
  • Proficiency in developing and mentoring future managers for the Company.
  • Clear understanding of regional manufacturing needs
  • Ability to deal with peers and managers at all levels and functions within the Company
  • Experience managing engineers and managing large capital projects and implementation of new products
  • 7-10 years’ experience
  • Travel: 25-30% inter-regionally
