Job Information

The Staff Engineer, Design is responsible for the execution of overall design, development, and integration of mechanical, structural, and thermal systems for hydrogen-based energy systems. Work within the Engineering Change Order or New Product Development process to ensure timely, controlled, and compliant design changes using standard engineering product development practices to include Pugh, FMEA, risk analyses and compliance matrixes. Utilize up-to-date design tools including CREO/Windchill, Ansys and CREO Flow structural, thermal, and CFD tools. Support multi-disciplinary research and collaboration with CSA, System, MBOP, Electrical, and Manufacturing engineers in a matrix organization to pursue and achieve business objectives, on time, at cost with optimal quality. Accountable for development, coaching and mentorship of other team members to support career development and business results elevation. Will be responsible for several components of a project, or a more complex component of a larger project as a project engineer working under a project manager.

Role & Responsibility

  • Collaborate with other Engineering functional groups to coordinate design activities and ensure thorough, accurate documentation of components and subassemblies.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and other relevant business entities to coordinate implementation of new designs and develop transition plans to bridge design revisions.
  • Ensure designs have been validated and thoroughly documented prior to production release.
  • As may be required, work with suppliers and fabricators to support the generation of low cost, durable designs.
  • Consistent use of root cause techniques to determine true root cause and enact mitigation/corrective actions going forward.
  • Able to execute concept generation and down-select designs.
  • Work across multi-disciplinary groups in a project engineer capacity to lead teams effectively.

Job Requirements


  • Understanding of robust processes and systems of complex electromechanical designs
  • Pipe and Tube Welded Assemblies (1" up to 8" Pipe, Tube and Hose) (Steel and Stainless Steel)
  • Design of Pressure Vessels and /or Structural Weldments
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to use material and design standards from ASTM, ASME, ISO, AWS, and JIS
  • Proficiency with, CREO, Windchill, ANSYS preferred.


  • Experience working with a diverse group of business-focused individuals, occasionally on a global basis.
  • Experience with ASME B31 Pressure Piping
  • Project leadership experience
  • Knowledge /Experience in Fuel Cell or Electrolyzer design
  • Design experience with Process Piping Designs (Powerplants, Electrolyzer, Ships, Boilers, Industrial Designs, Generators, Water Treatment, Oil and Gas)


  • BA/BS degree with 10+ years of experience
  • MA/MS degree with 7+ years of experience
  • Mechanical Engineering or related degree
