The Senior Applications Engineer is a primary technical resource for the field services force and is responsible for actively driving and supporting the technology evaluation stages of the sales process. Work as a lead technical advisor and product advocate to identify and provide reliable solutions for the variety of technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process.  Conducts feasibility and performance studies to support and evaluate projects and programs to assess and assure optimal actions and best solutions. The Senior Applications Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong and trusting relationships throughout the sales cycle.

Role & Responsibility

  • Evaluating and qualifying the customer’s electrical and thermal energy demands

  • Determining the optimal system solution and quantifying the performance

  • Evaluating the customer’s financial value proposition with a detailed project proforma

  • Assessing customer’s facility relating to heat and power needs, including interviewing operating personnel and recognizing the challenges to integration of the fuel cell

  • Developing a conceptual design of the electrical and thermal integration with the customer’s facility

  • Developing a conceptual site layout, bill-of-material, and installation scope of work

  • Understanding energy markets and applying knowledge to project proforma

  • Supporting sales efforts, including supporting/making presentations to potential customers

  • Visits to potential customer sites mostly within New England and New York. Additional travel to other locations may be necessary (<10%)

  • The base of operations for this position is the candidate’s home

Job Requirement - Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline required

  • Master’s Degree in engineering and/or MBA a plus, but not necessary

  • PE, CEM and LEED certification a plus, but not necessary

  • 8 years+ with energy related projects such as fuel cells, CHP, distributed generation, performance contracting, and/or HVAC/buildings

  • Strong ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with potential customers, both individually and in group settings

  • Proficient understanding and usage of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Comfortable working independently
