Responsible for effective contributions and self-development supporting the MBOP (Mechanical Balance of Plant) team focused on the selection and maintenance of mechanical components utilized within a fuel cell powerplant. The MBOP Engineer is responsible for selecting fuel cell components that meet the requirements generated by the Systems group. Typical tasks include corresponding with and effectively collaborating with suppliers to enable selection of optimal hardware, generating component specifications from component level requirement documents, working with suppliers to develop custom components when necessary, generating component- level models, running performance tests (e.g. pump head vs. flow) and/or accelerated durability tests, and conducting component-level testing of new or refurbished parts prior to installation into the powerplant. Will support and perform assigned troubleshooting component noncompliance issues discovered in the factory or in the field. Ongoing focus on career development within the discipline. Assigned to small projects or discreet tasks within the discipline, and depends on others for guidance and direction.

Role & Responsibility

• With guidance and direction from others, generate component specifications from component level requirement documents, and review with author(s) to modify as needed prior to formal pursuit.

• With support, share component specifications with potential suppliers to identify suitable Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) component availability.

• Use component specifications to enable suppliers to develop suitable components when COTS parts are not suitable.

• Ensure new componentry has been validated and thoroughly documented prior to production release.

• Assure utilization of root cause/corrective action techniques to generate consistently optimal problem resolution.

• Set challenging but attainable technical goals for self, and seeks support from others to enhance personal and professional development performance.

• May be asked to support the development of suppliers to enable them meet Doosan’s technical, cost and delivery targets.

• As part of a team, work with supply chain to initiate, develop and execute component-related cost reductions.

• Challenge the status quo of current hardware componentry, systems and practices to achieve continuous MBOP improvements

• Learn to work seamlessly with others across functional, geographic and cultural boundaries.

• Seek mentor relationships for personal and career development.

Job Requirement - Education & Experience

  • BS degree with 0-2+ years of experience
  • Mechanical Engineering degree, or other related Engineering degree
  • Still learning the fundamentals of the discipline and the role, with sound technical understanding of the basics.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and grow effective in-house and supplier relationships.
  • Some process and systems understanding, know-how and expertise.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing/factory environment is helpful, with heat exchanger experience a plus.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical hardware such as pumps, valves and instrumentation is preferred.
  • With guidance, works to develop realistic plans to meet the objectives of short and longer-term assignments.
  • Demonstrates reasonable, effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ongoing focus on career development. Seek and secure a mentorship relationship.
