Background

The position described involves on-site work at our secondary office space in Boston, MA (main offices located in East Hartford, CT - minimal travel to CT required). Job Information

Responsible for leadership and support of a group engaged in the overall systems design, development and integration of mechanical, structural and thermal systems for the fuel cell micro-CHP systems. Support the system-level Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).  Includes assurance up-to-date Computer Aided Design (CAD) practices and tools are in place and will also develop analysis capabilities, which includes structural, acoustic, and CFD tools. With design engineering expertise, lead and support the Design team, in collaboration with other multi-discipline groups. Promote the Engineering Change Request/Engineering Change Order Process, ensuring timely, controlled, and compliant design changes. May lead or participate in multi-disciplinary research and collaboration with equipment designers, hardware engineers, and others to pursue and achieve business objectives, on time, at cost with optimal quality. Accountable for development, coaching and mentorship of other team members to support career development and business results elevation. This role has direct concentration on leadership skills and abilities in conjunction with effective individual performance based on strong technical knowledge of fuel cells and the overall fuel cell design discipline.

Role & Responsibility

  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to coordinate design activities and ensure thorough, accurate documentation of electrical and electromechanical subassemblies.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing to coordinate implementation of new designs and develop transition plans to bridge between design revisions.

  • Ensure the designs have been validated and thoroughly documented prior to production release.

  • Work with suppliers and fabricators to support generation of low cost, durable designs.

  • Demand use of root cause techniques to determine true root cause and enact mitigation/corrective actions going forward.

  • Stay abreast of industry-wide fuel cell design concepts and developments to maintain leading technological edge, progress and achievements.

  • Lead execution of concept generation and down-select.

  • Ongoing focus on talent management and development to elevate employee engagement and performance, and to elevate business results.

 

Job Requirement

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS degree with 6-10+ years of experience

  • MA/MS degree with 4-7+ years of experience

  • PhD degree with 2-4+ years of experience

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, or other related Engineering degree

Knowledge and Skill

  • Advanced knowledge of fuel cells and fuel cell process technologies.

  • Robust process and systems understanding, know-how and expertise.

  • Solid mechanical design engineering background

  • Fuel cell design engineering experience preferred

  • Proficiency with codes and standards for fuel cells and other distributed generation (DG) products
