Logistics Manager

Job Information

The Logistics Manager will oversee the planning and execution of logistics activities at assigned sites, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective shipments. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership abilities and extensive experience in logistics planning and supply chain management.  This position typically involves leading a team of logistics analysts or logistics planners.

Role & Responsibility

• Champion strategic initiatives to optimize assigned transit modes, ensuring cost-effective and reliable delivery of inbound and outbound materials and finished goods.
• Drive monthly activities to meet and exceed assigned site shipping targets for finished goods.
• Lead strategies to reduce freight costs, improve transit times, and enhance service reliability.
• Design and maintain logistics commodity strategies for all transit modes to align with business needs and ensure operational efficiency.
• Lead and develop a team of Logistics Analysts or Logistics Planners that support shipping activities at assigned sites.  
• Actively participates in site leadership teams as needed and assigned.
• Actively participates and fully represents assigned sites on Logistics Leadership Team.
• Oversees scheduling of both pick-ups and shipments (inbound and outbound).
• Directs domestic or international shipments to ensure compliance with all regulations.
• Collaborate with finance to review all freight bills to ensure accurate freight costs. 
• Identify and drive projects to increase efficiency, carrier compliance, reduce waste, improve consistency.
• Analyze logistics data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
• Manage relationships with carriers, identify areas for improvement, drive associated project execution.
• Maximize load and cost efficiencies for domestic and international shipments.
• Manages damaged and lost freight claims.
• Negotiates contracts and manages relationship for the leasing of transportation equipment or property with carriers or 3PLs.
• Communicate with stakeholders to optimize loads and maximize profit structure.
• Proactively communicates monthly outbound shipping progress against targets.  Identifies risks and closes gaps as needed.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirement

What Skills and Experience You’ll Need:

• 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain management or related field including 1-2 years of direct leadership experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in training, developing and mentoring team members.
• Possesses advanced knowledge of the industry's competitive landscape, regulations, standards, and best practices to drive strategic decision-making and ensure compliance.
• Proficiency in logistics software and tools: e.g. SAP, Oracle, other TMS.  Expert level in related software and tools strongly preferred, especially SAP TM.
• Demonstrated data analysis, strategy development, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated influencing skills negotiation experience.
• Travel required: 10-25%.

Education:

• We value skills gained though both education and experience.  Applicants may qualify with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics or related field or with additional years of professional and/or military experience in accordance with applicable law.
